Chainstitch rugs and cushions are the specialty of Kashmir. Be it in wool or silk, embroidery is done by special hook referred to as Ari rather as needle. The design ranges from floral to tribal patterns and animal to human forms. The rug looks like a carpet in which the pile is substituted by the texture. These rugs are used both as floor coverings and wall hangings.
